Slow in the City is Slow Food Dublin's inaugural annual food festival, in association with Bodytonic.

When: Sunday 29th October, 10.00am to 5pm.

Where: In the grounds of Sophia Housing Association on Cork Street, Dublin 8 (entrance opposite Weaver Park).

What:

Comprising of talks, panel discussions, demos, tastings, workshops and a food hall with Dublin producers, Slow in the City will highlight the flourishing Dublin food scene collaborating with local producers, community gardens, restaurants and chefs all of who live and breathe the Slow Food ethos every day in their work.

Circling the theme of ‘The Health of Irish Soil’ this one-day event aims to promote the values of good, clean and fair food in Dublin and further afield by growing membership, fostering community, educating the public and celebrating the pleasure of eating.

Festival Areas

The Market: An indoor food hall and showcase of the best of Dublin food and drink producers and businesses including: L Mulligan Grocers, Clonanny Farm, Bretzel Bakery, Klaw Dublin, Real Man Wines, This is Seaweed, Piglet Wine Bar, Jane Russell Sausages, Rifanos Crepes & Waffles, and many more. Taste, smell, explore and most importantly - eat!

The Workshop: In the intimate and chilled round room of The Workshop, a line-up of kids and adults tutorials, demos and tastings will take place throughout the day such as pumpkin carving, Halloween cake decorating, a sourdough demo, whiskey tasting, and more. .

The Symposium: A thoughtful line-up of talks and panel discussions on a variety of topics relating to soil, growing and food production in Ireland including: Health + Soil - Dave Beecher starts a conversation about soil and how we need to regenerate it in order to regenerate our own health and the health of the planet; Growers Talk Dirty - a panel discussion with members of Dublin community gardens talking about the issues they face and successes they've had; Much Ado About Seafood - Chef and cookbook author Trevis Gleason hosts a talk with Niall Sabongi from Klaw Dublin on seafood sustainability.

Our Festival Ethos: A Zero Waste Policy

Our objective is to have as little plastic or other non-degradable waste as possible at the festival. In The Market, we are operating Food on Board, an experiment in sustainability and a zero-waste initiative from Body&Soul Festival, who have kindly allowed us to adopt it for our first Slow in the City market.

Each vendor will be given wooden boards to serve food on alleviating any packaging. Attendees will be asked to drop their boards to the washing station when finished and use the food bins provided for any leftovers. All food collected will be given to the local community gardens for compost. All drinks will be served in compostable containers. Recycle bins will also be on site for any plastic waste.

Highlighting a Community Project: Sophia

Sophia is a weaving of holistic support to enable people who are homeless to make positive differences in their lives by becoming more aware of their own strengths and potential.

As well as providing accommodation, Sophia will also offer a safe place where one can seek wisdom of mind, heart, soul and spirit. Sophia is an environment that welcomes people who want to step back from the many pressures of their daily lives and environments.
